Council gave the developer direction to proceed with a neighborhood meeting. 25, 2022 - Developer and City Council discussed the concept plan. 28, 2021 - Deadline to submit development proposals to the city. 24, 2021 - Draft RFP presented to City Council and approved. 10, 2021 - Draft RFP for site redevelopment is presented at a City Council Study Session for review/feedback. Because the proposed site development includes a Plymouth Metrolink park-and-ride location, Transit Fund reserves may also help pay for demolition work at no additional cost to taxpayers. If awarded to the city, the funds will help cover site preparation and other infrastructure expenses. To assist with demolition costs, the city has applied for grants through the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development and the Metropolitan Council. The soil conditions, nearby wetlands, neighborhood traffic concerns and other factors have posed difficult challenges for developers. Poor Soil Conditions, Site Challengesĭue to extremely poor soil conditions and a shallow water table, the existing building and parking lot were constructed on pilings. The city anticipates successful redevelopment of the site will help revitalize the area and bring a variety of quality jobs, amenities, and experiences to the site. The decision follows the city’s continued proactive approach to encourage redevelopment. After two failed attempts by private companies to redevelop the site due to financing and other issues, the city purchased the property using transit funds in June of 2021.
